It’s undeniable that Kwesta is one of the biggest stars in Mzansi right now. 2018 saw the singer release massive singles like ‘Spirit’ and ‘Vur Vai’. Yesterday, the rapper walked away with the most awards at the SA Hip Hop Awards in the Hustler of the Year, Best Video (for Spirit featuring Wale), MVP Award, Best Digital Sales, Best Collaboration (for Spirit featuring Wale) and Best Remix.
However, the rapper has also won other impressive awards and accolades for his hit single ‘Spirit’ over the past 12 months. The song is the best-selling hip hop ringback tone and CallerTune for the Year and the song is also the most streamed SA hip hop song on Apple Music, JOOX, Deezer and YouTube, the song was included in Apple Music’s Top 100 Songs 2018: South Africa, the music video has been nominated for awards across the continent and received a Loerie for Best Music Video.
Meanwhile, Kwesta was named MTV Base’s Hottest MC for the second year in a row, he was featured in ads by Telkom and Urban Art Shoes, he ended the year with a Heineken finale featuring Rich Homie Quan and Rick Ross on the line up, he has a line of sneakers available in over 1,000 stores around Southern Africa and 2018 has seen him collaborate on a number of albums, including: Mlindo the Vocalist, Zonke, AKA, KiD X, Sho Majozi, DJ Vetkuk & Mahoota, DJ Sliqe, Stogie T, JR and the cousins amongst many others.
The rapper will also premiere the music video for his smash hit ‘Vur Vai’ later today. 2018 has been an incredible year from Kwesta and we’re looking forward to seeing what magic he brings to the local entertainment space in 2019.
