She’s back! It’s been six years since Beyoncé released her previous album ‘Lemonade’ and she’s ending that drought right now! The star announced that her seventh studio album ‘Renaissance’ drops 29 July and the project’s lead single ‘Break My Soul’ is finally here.
The song takes an interesting sonic direction as Beyoncé steps into the 90s dance era and samples house music legend Robin S.’ 1990 track ‘Show Me Love’. The song also includes a sample from Big Freedia’s 2014-released ‘Explode’.
As described in the recent issue of British Vogue, ‘Renaissance’ will include “music that makes you rise, that turns your mind to cultures and subcultures, to our people past and present, music that will unite so many on the dance floor, music that touches your soul.”
Produced by the singer herself, Beyoncé also enlisted Jay Z, The-Dream, Tricky Stewart and BlaqNmilD to help produce the new single. One of the brains behind Robin S.’ original track ‘Show Me Love’, R&B songwriter Fred McFarlane, was also listed with co-writer credits on the track.
Interestingly, the track has already been likened to Drake’s new album ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ which also saw him take an introspective look into dance as he flirts with house music, tech-house and amapiano.
