Indie/folk star Kayleigh Bell is back with new music this week as she premieres her brand-new single ‘Better Days’. The singer’s inspiration comes from a place of vulnerability, clearly based on personal experiences and this song was born during the star’s high school days.
“I wrote Better Days whilst still in High school. I can clearly remember sitting behind my piano one day and writing this song. I was going through a very difficult time, dealing with the after-effects of my parent’s separation as well as trying to decide what on earth I wanted to do with my life, as University applications were knocking on my door. For a seventeen year old, having to make these decisions was incredibly difficult. I was struggling, as I had people pushing me in certain directions,” Kayleigh explains.
She adds “I remember feeling extremely frustrated and alone, just wondering why I was going through all these things. Next thing I knew I had written ‘Better Days’ in just a couple of minutes. After looking down at what I had written, I realised that I had written this song to myself, as a reminder and as motivation to pick myself out of the self-destructing cycle I was in and to acknowledge that no matter what I was going through, there will be better days ahead.
Kayleigh says that she hopes that her vulnerability will inspire others who feel the same way. “My hope for this song is that is serves as a reminder, that no matter what you go through, there will always be brighter and better days ahead,” she says. “You just have to pick yourself up, lift your head and keep looking forward. People in this world will try and break you down, but don’t let them. Keep your light shining!”
