The fifth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars has certainly been one of the strongest seasons the series has had to date and in a nail-biting finale, the crown was set to be bestowed on either Miz Cracker, Jujubee or Shea Couleé. But, in the entertaining grand finale, RuPaul crowned Shea as the winner of this season – and she’s certainly a deserving winner.
Shea Couleé, who was previously part of the show’s ninth season, gave an exceptional performance in each challenge the series threw at her. In the show’s finale, the final three were tasked with writing and recording a verse from RuPaul’s new single ‘Clap Back’ and perform it on the main stage with an array of dancers and tricky moves choreographed by Todrick Hall.
While the series was shot in advance, the final three jumped on a video call to watch the crowning live. Because the show is recorded in advance, to prevent leaks, the finale is filmed with three different outcomes. The finalist find out who is crowned the winner along with everyone else watching.
“My drag in its purest form is a tribute to black women. Ru, I would be remiss if I did not tell you how much I appreciate you and everything that you’ve done,” Shea told Ru during the grand finale. “I thank you for helping me make my dreams come true. I’ll never be able to repay you for that. But, if you give me your Venmo, I can send you some installments, and I will sure as hell try.”
The 31-year-old has been inducted into the Drag Race hall of fame, alongside All-Stars sisters, Chad Michaels, Alaska Thunderfuck, Trixie Mattel, Monét X Change and Trinity the Tuck.
Obviously excited, Shea took to social media to thank her fans for their support during the season. “I own 100% of this crown! So thankful for all of the love and support I’ve received. This has been such an unbelievable journey, and I’m eternally grateful to be inducted into the hall of fame as the FIRST Chicago winner,” she said.
