South Africa’s very own Ndlovu Youth Choir wowed judges Simon Cowell, Gabrielle Union, Howie Mandell and Julianne Hough as they auditioned for the popular reality show ‘Americas Got Talent’. The group, originally from Limpopo, wowed the judges and audience with a rendition of Vicky Sampson’s popular hit ‘My African Dream’. Their performance, conducted by choir director Ralf Schmitt and composed by South African-born Alan Lazar, received a standing ovation from the judges who were clearly blown away from.
“You showcased the beauty that you represent and you are giving so much hope, I can’t thank you enough. Thank you”, judge Gabrielle Union said after they impressed her with their performance. Simon added that “We’ve always been waiting for a choir like this, something we’ve never heard before with your energy bouncing off me right there.”
The group has been making waves for approximately a decade and found international fame with their rendition of Ed Sheeran’s hit single ‘Shape Of You’ which saw them collaborate with Grammy award-winning flutist Wouter Kellerman. The clip currently has just under three million views on YouTube and continues to be widely spread on social media.
Currently, Americas Got Talent is the biggest show on television with a grand prize of $1 million.
