It became routine. Every Saturday, between 6 – 8pm, before all the shenanigans that were about to happen, Metro FM would be blazing while SPHEctacula and DJ Naves would be playing all of the latest jams. However, the dynamic DJ duo announced that after seven years of The Preparty, the show is officially coming to an end this week.
To the listeners, SPHEctacula and DJ Naves express: “Thank you for allowing us into your cars, homes and hearts over the past 7 years. The Preparty was a huge success because of all of YOU that tuned in every Saturday. We are eternally grateful for your unwavering support. Leaving The Preparty is a bold step for us to grow, get out of our comfort zones and challenge ourselves to achieve more. We hope you continue to follow us on our journey, wherever that may lead.”
The show has been a massive hit for the station since it’s inception in May 2010. Not only was the music always on point, but it provided an avenue for urban South Africans to engage in discussions on matters relevant to them in a youthful manner whilst enjoying the best music mixes as they pre-partied.
While the duo haven’t revealed what the reason is behind the show coming to an end, their entrepreneurial journey could be it. The duo own the sophisticated clubbing venue Icon Soweto and are currently promoting an upcoming EP called The Kings Way. Their hit DJ and Producer search reality TV show 1s and 2s also returns for a fourth season on 16 May 2017 at 9pm on SABC 1.
