I’ve BEEN waiting to watch the highly anticipated stage performance of Singin’ In The Rain since I saw the cast head out on their international tour. Now, the show’s season comes to an end right here in Jozi and I got to catch a sneak peek of the production a day before it’s release. Needless to say, I was completely blown away! That’s why I’ve narrowed down five reasons why you need to watch this production!
The Set
Oh em gee! The set this time around was on another level. Every production at The Teatro in Montecasino is incredible set-wise but Singin’ In The Rain took this to a new level. I came out of the show feeling as if I’ve just watched a film and it was all thanks to the incredible sets. From the traditional office look to big broadway lights. Oh, and the famous rain scenes were perfect! So perfect that the first few rows had to wear a raincoat!
The Music
Singin’ In The Rain is known for its music. Naturally, the cast does not disappoint. Vocally, everyone was on top form and gave each and every song their all. Singing loudly along to the song isn’t something to be ashamed of. In fact, you will find many around you doing the same thing themselves.
Lina Lamont
Lina Lamont is the world’s biggest silent movie star. However, since talking films are becoming the next big thing in the 1920’s, Hollywood needs to adapt. Despite being beautiful, Lina has one hell of an irritating voice and this becomes a huge problem for her career going forward. Local beauty Taryn-Lee Hudson did a phenomenal job portraying Lina. Sure, her character is annoying as hell but it showed what a brilliant actress she is. To be able to stick with that voice (which surely strained her vocals) is impressive and her acting really brings the character to life. She was my highlight of the show.
The Translation
If you have seen the film, you know exactly what’s coming your way in the theatre production of Singin’ In The Rain. The cast and crew really put together a perfect stage production which is sure to impress even the film’s biggest groupies!
Attention To Detail
This is the part the production really won at. From the staff wearing yellow raincoats, to the beautiful umbrella display outside the theatre and even recording real silent films that were projected onto the stage, this show had it all! It’s the small things like this that really makes this show stand out from the crowd and, ultimately, making it one of the best local productions of all time.

Saw it twice down here in Cape Town! it was outstanding (especially Taryn-Lee Hudson). I hope it runs to full houses up there.
[…] As mentioned in my review, I loved the production of Singin’ In The Rain now on at The Teatro, Montecasino. So much so that I went to watch it again recently. The show was just as brilliant as the first time and I could honestly even go watch it a third time. However, this time was even more special as not only did I sit in the very front row, I got a special backstage tour. Naturally, I’m brining you along for the ride. […]
