The One Direction lads may be taking a well-deserved hiatus after the release of their fifth studio album in five years ‘Made In The AM’, but just days after releasing their farewell video for ‘History’, which reminisced on their career so far, Zayn Malik has dropped his lead solo single. Zayn, who left the group in a shocking announcement last year, revealed that he wanted out of the group after the first year as he wasn’t recording the music that he wanted to record. Now, however, we’ve finally got a glimpse of who the real Zayn is with his debut solo single ‘Pillowtalk’.
The track sees Zayn move into the R&B space, however, that doesn’t mean he’s given up on his pop influences. The track is an uber sexy slow jam which shows off Zayn’s vocal range beautifully. Unlike One Direction’s music, this track is a lot more mature and reminds me a lot of the music Justin Bieber released on his latest record ‘Purpose’. “F***ing you and fighting on, it’s our paradise and it’s our war zone,” sings Zayn, as he repeats: “In your bed all day, bed all day, bed all day.”
The video is also rather explicit and features Zayn’s girlfriend Gigi Hadid. Although simple, the video stands out with some awesome kaleidoscopic effects and the new dark video is the perfect way to introduce Zayn’s new sound to the world. ‘Pillowtalk’ is the lead single off Zayn’s upcoming debut album ‘Mind Of Mine’ which is due later this year and I’m in love with the single already!
