Desmond and the Tutus are probably the hottest indie group in South Africa at the moment. They have dropped a string of hit singles off their recent album ‘Enjoy Yourself’ which landed up winning Best Rock Album at this year’s South African Music Awards. However, when he has some time off from the group, band member Craig Durrant works on his solo project Yo Grapes. After starting the project back in 2010. Now, after a significant absence, Yo Grapes is back as the artist drops his new single ‘I Play The Drums’.
The song is the lead single off an upcoming Yo Grapes album and is the perfect mix of indie and pop which will, undoubtedly, make it a radio smash. I love that the singer stays true to the sound and music he enjoys while making the song commercial enough to appeal to a mass audience. The song is filled with an awesome guitar riff making it sound unlike anything on radio at the moment. The song is fun, cheeky and light-hearted which makes this a great track to jam to.
The song has just been playlisted on major radio stations around the country and the response to the song has been amazing. This is a song I’ll definitely be jamming all summer to and I can’t wait to hear what else Craig has in store.
