Wax Beach And Josh Wantie Reunite On The Catchy Banger ‘Be Someone’

Jamie Christensen and Tiaan du Toit, together known as Wax Beach, are finally back with new music this month! The duo, who hail from Cape Town, have premiered their new single ‘Be Someone’ – a song which unpacks the impact past relationships have had on them. As a collaboration project, the duo have reunited with Josh Wantie, who the duo collaborated with on ‘One More Night’ five years ago. Josh adds his own perspective to the track.

This particular song through numerous iterations and structures before settling on the final version. Sonically, the song takes inspiration from modern pop punk artists such as Machine Gun Kelly and Oliver Tree, as well as hinting towards some disco elements.

When asked what it was like to work with the duo again, Josh explains that “Wax Beach are some of the most talented producers I’ve worked with, and we’ve stayed in touch over the years after the success of our single ‘One More Night’. We were always open to working together again, if the right track came along. When I heard the track for ‘Be Someone’ I knew it was time. I immediately hopped into the studio with a friend and writer, Richard Stirton, and we finished the vocals in about 2 hours. Super proud to be working with Wax Beach again.”

Jamie of Wax Beach adds that he was excited to work with Josh again “After the release of one of our biggest songs, ‘One More Night,’ we formed a close relationship with Josh and have kept in touch ever since. We recognised the potential of this song to be incredibly catchy with the right hook.

To explore different ideas, we initially shared the song with a few writers, but unfortunately, the ideas we received were not up to our standard. Feeling a bit stuck and unsure of which direction to take, we decided to reach out to Josh, we sent him the song not thinking that he would end up as the vocalist, but hoping he could point us in the right direction and maybe bring something unique to the song.”

Jamie adds “To our surprise It didn’t take long for him to send us a full demo with vocals that instantly resonated with us. I think we work well together as he understands our vision.

Tiaan adds “This track has come a really long way since we started it way back in 2021. We always knew it had potential, but we needed the correct artists to unlock it. Luckily Josh also saw that potential and brought his a-game. He is really good at what he does and working with him again was an absolute joy and privilege. He completely understood what we were going for and delivered.”
