WATCH: The Weeknd Aces Superbowl Halftime Show

It’s the biggest musical event of the year and this year as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took on the Kansas City Chiefs at the 55th edition of the famous football event, The Weeknd gave a spectacular halftime performance.

Performing a medley of hits including “Can’t Feel My Face,” “Earned It,” “Starboy,” “The Hills” and his more recent chart topper, “Blinding Lights,” The Weeknd came out in his signature red jacket and performed on an incredible backdrop filled with an array of dancers.

During his recent ‘After Hours’ era, The Weeknd famously rocked bandages on his face but during the halftime performance, it was his dancers who donned bandaged faces. Alongside the incredible army of dancers, The Weeknd’s performance was filled with pyrotechnics, lights and chaotic moshpits.

“The significance of the entire head bandages is reflecting on the absurd culture of Hollywood celebrity and people manipulating themselves for superficial reasons to please and be validated,” The Weeknd explained to Variety last year.

Many also wondered if The Weeknd would have some surprise guests during his set but shot down rumours of a guest appearance a few days before the performance. “I’ve been reading a lot of rumors,” he said. “There wasn’t any room to fit it in the narrative and the story I was telling in the performance. So there’s no special guests, no.”

The Weeknd’s Superbowl halftime performance reportedly cost him $7 million dollars (artists aren’t paid for the performance) – but he made every penny count with an exceptional visual and sonic feast!
