Taylor Swift Returns to Her Country Roots With New Toy Story 5 Anthem ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’

Fresh off the record-breaking success of her latest album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, Taylor Swift has unveiled a brand-new original song, ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’, written and produced alongside longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff for Disney and Pixar’s highly anticipated ‘Toy Story 5’. The song, which plays over the film’s end credits, is now available to stream and marks Swift’s first official radio single since the release of ‘The Life of a Showgirl’.

The track is particularly significant for Swifties because it sees the 14-time Grammy winner returning to the country sound that first launched her career. According to Disney, the song was inspired by Jessie, the beloved cowgirl introduced in ‘Toy Story 2’, and her ongoing journey in the franchise.

Swift has spoken openly about her lifelong connection to the Toy Story universe, revealing that she immediately felt inspired after seeing an early version of the film. “I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters,” Swift shared when announcing the song. The singer has described the project as both a creative departure and a homecoming, combining her current songwriting style with the country influences that defined her early years.

The release reunites Swift with Antonoff, one of her most frequent collaborators, and arrives amid renewed excitement around her musical direction. Fans have spent the past week speculating about the project following a series of mysterious “TS” billboards and countdowns that appeared across multiple cities around the world before Swift officially confirmed her involvement with the film.

The release continues Swift’s long history of creating original music for film projects, following beloved soundtrack contributions such as ‘Safe & Sound’ from ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’ from ‘Fifty Shades Darker’.

The arrival of ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’ comes as anticipation continues to build for ‘Toy Story 5’, which will see Woody, Buzz and the gang return to cinemas for another adventure when the film opens in South Africa on 19 June 2026.
