Taylor Swift is ensuring her ‘Reputation’ era kicks off with a bang! Just over a week since she has released her highly-anticipated comeback single ‘Look What You Made Me Do’, the singer has given fans another taste off the record.
The song serves as the official opening track off the upcoming album as Taylor continues to show off her darker, edgier sound. However, unlike ‘Look What You Made Me Do’, the song has strong pop influences reminiscent from the ‘1989’ era – hinting that she may not go as dark as the lead single suggests. The song does see Taylor lean into a more electronic space than ever before while distinctively staying true to the true Taylor Swift style. The song is about the start of the new relationship and everything that comes with that (the good and the bad).
“In the middle of the night / In my dreams / You should see the things we do / Baby… Mmm / In the middle of the night / In my dreams / I know I’m gonna be with you / So I take my time / …are you ready for it,” Taylor sings after almost rapping the verse. The song proves that the old Taylor may not be as far gone as she let us believe in ‘Look What You Made Me Do’. However, the track does prove that Taylor is experimenting with an edgier sound – and we’re so here for it!
