Last year, rapper AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes, was famously an ambassador for sporting brand Reebok. He played a roll in a variety of social campaigns for the brand and, in a massive move, created his own brand of sneakers for the brand which he dubbed the SNEAKA. However, in a series of new tweets, the Supa Mega revealed that he never got paid for that collaboration – and fans are shook!
“Can you believe they didn’t pay me a single cent for this? … not one cent,” the rapper said as he responded to a fan who was reminiscing on the collaboration. “They refused to give me any sort of payment or royalty.”
When asked why he entered into the deal, AKA admitted that he had a great relationship with the brand and designing his own pair of sneakers has been a dream of his for a while now. “I had no choice … it was always a dream of mine to have my own sneaker. I guess that’s why I took a shitty deal in exchange for doing something for the culture,” the rapper tweeted. “Well, same thing that happens most of the time … you bring a brand back from the dead and someone in some office in Cape Town can’t stand to pay you more than they make in a year.”
In fact, the rapper goes on to say that he never signed a contract with the brand for the creation of the sneakers and the experience has been a massive learning curve for him. “There was no contract. Only my contract as an ambassador. A contract regarding the #SNEAKA doesn’t even exist. At least I got to design and release my own sneaker. That’s about it.”
Fans have been campaigning against the brand for their mistreatment of the rapper and #ReebokMustFall has been trending on social media since the rapper shared his story.

This doesn't have to do whether you love AKA or you don't.. We can't tolerate the tendencies of companies not abiding to their promises to our fellow citizens. These companies think they smart. We don't approve such mugathari behavior! They must fall comrades. #ReebokMustFall pic.twitter.com/6QGaRz5V1c
