The rise of Shekhinah has been incredible to watch. After she blossomed on Idols South Africa, the star took a few years to work on her voice and delivery while writing and spending time in the studio. She then burst back onto the scene with her smash hit ‘Back To The Beach’ with Kyle Deutsch. Since then, she has released the hits ‘Let You Go’, ‘Your Eyes’ with Black Coffee, ‘Breathing’ with Jesse Clegg and now, her new single ‘Suited’ is taking the county by storm.
The Afro-pop track serves as the lead single off the star’s upcoming album with Sony Music titled ‘Rose Gold’. The song doesn’t stray too far from ‘Let You Go’ but is another fantastic piece of pop music from the star. The song has every ingredient needed for it to become a hit. The production is insane, the melody stands out and Shekhinah gives a solid vocal performance. However, it’s in the songwriting where the song shines. The love song has a great amount of depth in its lyrical content but is still catchy enough to be a radio-friendly pop song.
Shekhinah has grown so much as an artist over the past few years and it’s been incredible to watch. The star is putting the final touches on her upcoming debut album which she promises will have all the elements of the music fans have become accustomed to. “I would love to ease my audience into my new album. I don’t want to stretch too far from my usual sound,” she explains. “ I used bongo drums in the track which I know my fans will relate to and instantly recognize. When I was working on the track I imagined it fitting snuggly into people’s intimate spaces. I could hear the song playing in many kitchens on a sunny afternoon as lovers prepare their favourite meal. I could see soul mates gleaming with joy as they remembered what they were doing the first time they heard it and how they felt.” ‘Suited’ is out on all major digital platforms now.
