Canadian pop-star, Shawn Mendes, has been all over our radio stations with his new single ‘Treat You Better’ over the past few weeks. Last week he dropped his second studio album ‘Illuminate’ and has chosen ‘Mercy’ as the second single from the project and released a powerful music video to go along with it!
The song, written by the pop star alongside Teddy Geiger, Danny Parker and Ilsey Juber, is a powerful mid-tempo ballad which will break your heart. The song is about a relationship that hurts and broken hearts and is written in a way that so many people can relate to. Lyrically is where the song shines and when paired with Shawn’s emotional vocals, magic happens. The song is emotional, powerful and catchy which will, undoubtedly, make this a hit. I love how Shawn pleads and cry’s in the song. This is definitely one of the strongest pop ballads I’ve heard in a while.
Shawn also dropped a fantastic video to accompany the track. The video “acts as a cautionary tale against driving and drowning, with the Canadian singer spending most of the clip trying to escape a sinking car.” It’ll have you rooting for the star. Watch the video here:
