Canadian pop star Shawn Mendes has been enjoying his time out of the limelight. The singer has been hard at work creating his upcoming third studio album and after teasing fans, the star is finally back with new music. Shawn dropped ‘In My Blood’, the lead single off the upcoming project and it sounds like another sure-fire hit for the star.
Shawn has really found a knack for pouring out his emotions through song and ‘In My Blood’ is a raw, powerful debut single that reminds fans that there’s more to the star than his good looks and incredible voice. The star wrote the song alongside Teddy Geiger, Scott Harris and Geoff Warburton and shows a tremendous amount of growth in the 19-year-old’s ability and content.
On this new record, Shawn Mendes made a point to push himself creatively and create pop hits with stadium status. In order to achieve that, he knew his lyrical content needed to identify with older audiences as well as his solid young fanbase. “I was like, I want to make a Kings of Leon record – I want to go more rock,” the star said in an interview with Zane Lowe. “The only way we’re going to step up … and get better … is if it’s more honest. Like, how raw can we get?”
The star adds that the song details his own battle with anxiety. “It was kind of something that hit me last year,” he confessed. “Growing up, I was a pretty calm kid. I knew people who suffered from anxiety, found it kind of hard to understand, and then when it hits you, you’re like, ‘Oh my god, this is crazy.'”
‘In My Blood’ is now available on all major digital streaming platforms.
