Sharoney Drops New Single ‘Skyn’

Local Afrikaans pop star Sharoney made quite the impression with her debut album ‘In Ons Fairytale’. The album spawned the hits ‘Prinses’ and ‘Wees My Held’ and was subsequently nominated for two Ghoema awards in the Newcomer of the Year and Best Pop Album by a Female Artist categories. Now, the star is back with a new single. ‘Skyn’ is the title track and lead single off the star’s upcoming record and it’s another piece of pop perfection!

The pop track is a step in the right direction for the star. The edgy production is a sound that has become increasingly popular in the pop music space and it’s great to see local artists on trend. The song is phenomenally written. Hugo Ludik and Vaughan Gardiner, the songwriters, are quickly becoming the go-to writers in the industry and this track solidifies their position as one of the best in the business. Vocally, Sharoney gives a good performance. Although I would have liked a bit more of a climax towards the end of the song, Sharoney proves she has an incredible talent and the song has the potential to become her biggest single to date.

“The aim of the song, is to inspire people not to allow the things that happen in the world to dim the light that is shining within them. It encourages listeners to just be themselves and to believe in who they are. You are you and that is what makes you shine,” says the singer. “The track means a lot to me. I actually still get a lump in my throat when I have to sing it. There have been many obstacles in my life, which I thought that I would not be able to overcome. But I did and now it is my time to shine. I hope and trust that this is what I will continue to do in the future.”
