Review: Zedd – True Colors + Win 1 of 5 Copies!

Zedd
True Colors (Universal Music)

Breakdown: He won a Grammy for his smash hit ‘Clarity’ featuring Foxes, and now, the Russian/German DJ has released his second studio album ‘True Colors’. The album was preceded by the smash hit single ‘I Want You To Know’ featuring his girlfriend Selena Gomez and the brand spanking new single ‘Beautiful Now’ featuring Jon Bellion.

How Many Good Tracks: 9 of the 11.

What I Liked: Zedd is a brilliant producer. He manages to capture an essence of a song in the way many DJs don’t these days. The lead single ‘I Want You To Know’ is proof of this. It stays true to the essence of EDM while appealing to the pop market as well. I love that Zedd didn’t choose the hottest names in pop music in a way David Guetta does, and gives up-and-coming artists a chance to shine (such a Troye Sivan). Zedd doesn’t use these big names to sell his music, but let’s the music do that for him. He seems very particular in the music he creates and this perfectionism has created a damn good debut album. I also love the fact that Zedd has a part of writing every single song on the record – proving once again what a brilliant artist he is.

What I Didn’t Like: I’m not going to lie, there is not much I don’t like on this record. The one thing I must be honest about is that the first six or so tracks, although brilliant, tend to get lost in each other. I often lost focus of there a song starts and ended. Everything seemed like it blended together. Otherwise, this is my new jam!

Best Track: Papercut (Feat. Troye Sivan)

Rating: 4/5

  1. My favorite has to be Papercut feat. Troye Sivan. Why? There’s just something different in his voice. I don’t know how to explain it but it sounds great.

  2. Favourite track is Straight Into The Fire.
Upbeat track with great vocals and a beat that you don’t easily get tired of
