I’m not going to lie… There’s a huge part of me that is obsessed with all things Ancient Egypt, so when I heard that an expo called Tutankhamun – His Tomb and His Treasures was coming to South Africa, I was immediately stoked. I don’t know what it is about that time that just resonates with me. I love the way the Egyptians dressed, the story of Moses, their gods and all the gold and riches the country had.
Tutankhamun – His Tomb and His Treasures is currently on display at Silverstar Casino. This amazing adventure begins with a multimedia presentation illustrating the fascinating story behind the exploration and excavation by British archaeologist, Howard Carter, the history of Tutankhamun, and the culture of ancient Egypt.
The expo has recreated the tomb of Tutankhamun exactly as it was found around 90 years ago. The tomb of Tutankhamun has been faithfully reconstructed to scale, giving visitors a realistic impression of the overwhelming opulence of the offerings intended to serve the king on his magical journey to the Underworld. More than 1,000 replicas of the most important finds have been reconstructed by the finest Egyptian craftsmen using traditional techniques, and can be admired at the exhibition.
In the expo you will learn exactly why he was buried with all of these artefacts and how the mummification process happens. I was extremely intrigued about all the four tombs he was buried in, each made from pure gold. What I really loved about this expo is that so much effort was put into each and every replica. So much so that it looks and feels so life-like. A part of me actually felt like I was there discovering the tomb of the young king as well. The fact that an expo can transport a person into that frame of mind is rare and proves just how amazing the whole thing really is.
A great aspect of this tour is that there are audio guides which explain each artefact or scenario. This is both a fun and educational experience that is fun for the whole family! There are so many things one can learn by visiting the expo and it’s great that something like this has come to South Africa. The tour will take approximately two hours to complete and after that you can enjoy all that Silverstar Casino has to offer.
