Selena Gomez
Revival (Universal Music)
Breakdown: One of the biggest stars in pop music today, Selena Gomez, is back with her second solo album. It’s been a tough few months for the star filled with passion and heartbreak and Selena has used this record as a sort of therapy. The album’s singles, ‘Good For You’ and ‘Same Old Love’, have become smash hits and prove that Selena is finally making the right kind of music.
How Many Good Tracks: 7 of the 11.
What I Liked: Selena pushed boundaries on this album. It’s the most comfortable and authentic we’ve ever heard the pop star and it shows just how important that is when releasing music. This album sees Selena on the course she should have taken with her music years ago – a mix of deep, heartfelt singles and catchy pop bangers with substance. Musically, the songs were really well produced and written beautifully. Every single instrument and sound is there for a reason and adds something valuable to the album. It’s that kind of attention that makes amazing music.
What I Didn’t Like: Vocally, Selena isn’t the best singer in the world and there are often moments on the album where her vocals aren’t as polished as they should be. The album is also a bit darker than we’ve ever heard from Selena and perhaps she could have added a song or two which lighten the mood a little bit – this is pop music after all.
Best Track: Kill Them With Kindness
