Riana Nel
Jy Sal Weet (Coleske Artists)
Breakdown: She is one of the biggest names in South African pop music and this year, Riana Nel drops her sixth studio album ‘Jy Sal Weet’. The Afrikaans singer released the album’s title track as the lead single off the project which has been well-recieved by both fans and radio stations around the country. In fact, the album is flying off the shelves as Riana, yet again, gives her fans what they want.
How Many Good Tracks: 14 of the 18.
What I Liked: Riana has a powerful voice. It’s something that stands out from the first to the very last note on the album. I feel that this album is one of her most authentic yet. Riana has figured out who she is as an artist and has managed to satisfy her creative process while delivering music that her fans want to hear. Riana did most of the songwriting on the album and shows yet another creative side of her. This has made the album incredibly personal and gives listeners a deeper understanding of Riana as an artist. This is a great record and it’s great to see the star bettering her craft with each new album.
What I Didn’t Like: The album is filled with mid-tempo tracks and I would have liked to see Riana experiment a bit more with both pop bangers and slower ballads.
Best Track: Sal By Jou Staan
