Review: Olly Murs – Never Been Better (Deluxe Edition)

Olly Murs
Never Been Better (Deluxe Edition) (Sony Music)

Breakdown: He’s one of the most underrated singers in the world in my opinion and former The X Factor UK runner-up has just released his fourth studio album. The record has already seen hit singles in ‘Wrapped Up’ featuring Travie McCoy and his new single ‘Up’ which features the brilliant Demi Lovato.

How Many Good Tracks: 12 of the 17.

What I Liked: If you want a brilliant pop album, this is definitely the record for you. Olly Murs sticks to what he knows best and that’s making people dance. Vocally, he is brilliant and it’s no wonder that he got so far on The X Factor UK. Olly also had a hand in writing all the tracks on the record, which is something really important to note as that is a difficult thing to do – especially to create so many hits like this record has. It’s no wonder that this album became one of the fastest selling albums in the UK last year.

What I Didn’t Like: There were some tracks on the record that sort of felt like copies of other tracks. I’m not saying Olly lacks originality but sometimes his sound becomes a bit repetitive. Other than that, there are just a few tracks that aren’t strong enough to be on the album but when weighed up against the good tracks, it sort of doesn’t even matter.

Best Track: I LOVE ‘Up’ featuring Demi Lovato and ‘Seasons’ needs to be a single.

Rating: 4/5
