Nick Jonas
Last Year Was Complicated (Universal Music)
Breakdown: He has taken over radio stations around the world with his hit singles ‘Close’, featuring Tove Lo and ‘Bacon’ featuring Ty Dolla $ign and now, Nick Jonas is back with a new album as he releases his third solo album ‘Last Year Was Complicated’.
How Many Good Tracks: 8 of the 12.
What I Liked: Nick Jonas has matured a lot over the years and this album is Nick’s most personal album yet. Most of the tracks were inspired by his very public breakup with Olivia Culpo and see Nick dig through a deep, dark place through song. I love that Nick was so real in his music this time around. The emotion shines through the music and it’s so amazing to watch that happen as a fan. Vocally, Nick sounds better than ever and reminds us exactly why he is one of the biggest pop stars in the world with each and every song. Nick sits comfortably in between the pop and R&B genres and has delivered yet another fantastic collection of music.
What I Didn’t Like: Nick’s previous self-titled album was one of my favourite records of 2014 and, unfortunately, this record doesn’t quite live up to it. While the lyrical content is fantastic, some of the composition is predictable and hides the massive growth Nick has had as an artist over the past two years.
