Review: Mike Posner – At Night, Alone

Mike Posner
At Night, Alone (Universal Music)

Breakdown: He dropped one of the biggest singles of the year. Now, after the release of ‘I Took A Pill In Ibiza’, Mike Posner is back with his second studio album ‘At Night, Alone’. The album features 12 tracks and six singles which give the songs an entirely new life.

How Many Good Tracks: 11 of the 18.

What I Liked: This is an incredibly deep album. Mike has almost used the writing process as a form of therapy and has poured his heart and soul into the record. The lyrical content on the album is very impressive and the growth seen in the artist is phenomenal. I think the lyrics are really relatable and it’s definitely an aspect that sets the album apart. Mike has a beautiful tone to his voice – especially on the more vulnerable songs. His voice is unique and it’s this uniqueness that keeps the listener captivated from start to finish.

What I Didn’t Like: This album is incredibly confusing. While there is so much to praise, it’s unfortunate to see just how much the singer relies on the remix aspect of the album. I understand he needs this to achieve commercial success but this is not the album people expect to hear. While I like that first half of the album gives us a deeper look into who Mike really is, I wish he was consistent with the material he released. Fans who love the remixes taking radio by storm will be disappointed with this release.

Best Track: I Took A Pill In Ibiza (SeeB Remix)

Rating: 3/5
