If you need a good laugh, this film will do the trick.
Starring: Adam Devine and Zac Efron
Plot: Two delinquent brothers, Mike and Dave, appear on ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ after their ad to find dates for their sister’s upcoming wedding in Hawaii goes viral. While their parents believe their wayward sons will transform into perfect gentlemen, they soon realise that their dates, Tatiana and Alice, are twice as wild and unhinged.
Remarks: Every once in a while, when you need to escape reality, a mindless comedy does the trick. It’s been a while since an R-rated comedy hit our screens but, luckily, Zac Efron comes to the rescue yet again in ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates’. As I’m sure you can already tell, the storyline is incredibly weak. It’s predictable, full of average performances and has some incredibly cringeworthy moments. However, the movies aren’t just about Oscar-worthy performances, are they? This film is hilarious! I found myself laughing out loud, cringing and even feeling emotional on more than one occasion. Zac and Adam have incredible chemistry. You can tell they fed off each other and their banter makes the film. In all honesty, however, I couldn’t stand Anna Kendrick in this film. Her character was so weak and she came across so uncomfortable in this role. Aubrey Plaza, on the other hand, nailed her role. This isn’t the first R-rated film Zac and Aubrey have appeared in together and, unfortunately, I find that, much like Melissa McCarthy, they both keep playing the same roles – and it’s gotten boring. That being said, as much as there is so much wrong with the film, there is so much right with it too. After watching the trailer, you know what you’re getting yourself in for – and you won’t be disappointed.
