Jamie Lawson
Jamie Lawson (Warner Music)
Breakdown: After being the first artist signed to Ed Sheeran’s Gingerbread Man Records and releasing his debut single ‘Wasn’t Expecting That’, Jamie Lawson has finally released his debut, self-titled album. The track was the inspiration for Ed’s beautiful song ‘Afire Love’ off his recent album ‘x’,
How Many Good Tracks: 6 of the 11.
What I Liked: Although Jamie’s music doesn’t compare to his mentor, it’s still emotionally touching. I love that Jamie takes the listener on a journey with his music and it’s thanks to his beautiful songwriting. Jamie has a very powerful voice with a beautiful tone to it and it elevates his music. Jamie pours his heart and soul on this record and when an artist does that, the most beautiful music comes from it. My highlights include the the first single, ‘Ahead of Myself’ and ‘In Our Own Worlds’.
What I Didn’t Like: This album becomes monotonous by the sixth song. While his music is good, Jamie fails to change things up on the record and seems to have recorded one type of song eleven times. Jamie seems to find a way to even make his happy songs sound depressing. Jamie’s potential is there – he just needs to step out of his comfort zone.
