Hardwell
United We Are (Just Music)
Breakdown: He blew me the fuck away at Ultra South Africa last month and now, after being voted the number one DJ in the world for the second year, Hardwell has released his debut studio album titled ‘United We Are’. The album includes hits such as ‘Arcadia’, ‘Sally’ and ‘Don’t Stop The Madness’.
How Many Good Tracks: 9 of the 14.
What I Liked: The first thing you notice when listening to an album released by a critically acclaimed DJ is, obviously, the production. Hardwell nailed that part of the album but decided to keep things rather commercial and, unlike David Guetta, didn’t lose the sound he is known and loved for on the record. The album blends a variety of genres together by using the power of EDM and he has really created a well-rounded album. Hardwell also has some amazing guests on the record such as Fatman Scoop, Mr Probz, Jason Derulo and more. Sure, the album is far from perfect but EDM lovers will really enjoy this one.
What I Didn’t Like: I know these kind of albums aren’t strong lyrically and this was the case with ‘United We Are’. Hardwell relied mostly on his beats than the songwriting and while this occurs in many pop songs, it’s annoying because I see the potential each of the tracks have. Hardwell’s choruses are also very predictable. I can’t help but feel his laziness with some of the drops and the melodies which is a shame.
Best Track: Follow Me (Feat. Jason Derulo)
