Breakdown: Her cover of ‘You Don’t Own Me’ did incredible things on charts around the world and landed up being used in many campaigns and films around the world. Now, after releasing two EPs, the Australian singer has dropped her highly anticipated debut album.
How Many Good Tracks: 9 of the 14.
What I Liked: Grace has released a solid debut album. The album isn’t the traditional pop record you would expect from a 19-year-old. The record is a lovely blend of pop, jazz and funk and it’s something incredibly different and unique. Her voice draws in a listener and smashes every single performance on the album. Every track is filled with a whole lot of substance and emotion and it makes Grace stand out from an incredibly saturated crowd. Lyrically, the album is well-crafted and there is no doubt that anyone who listens to the record will be impressed with the young star.
What I Didn’t Like: I think the album is a little too mature for the teenager. I would have liked to see her let her hair down a little more and sing songs that would resonate with more teens her age. Grace has also neglected the commercial aspect of the album. Many tracks aren’t necessarily made for radio. This isn’t a bad thing but I do think she should have had two or three more tracks which would have helped her follow-up the success of ‘You Don’t Own Me’. That being said, one can’t deny that this girl is incredibly talented and has dropped a debut album she can be proud of.
