Calvin Harris
Motion (Sony Music)
Breakdown: Scottish producer and singer Calvin Harris is finally back with a new record. Unlike most records, this album already has so many hit singles under it’s belt such as the brilliant ‘Summer’, ‘Blame’ which features John Newman, ‘Outside’ featuring Ellie Goulding and ‘Under Control’ which features Alesso and Hurts.
How Many Good Tracks: 9 of the 15.
What I Liked: This album is exactly what any EDM lover would hope for in an album. Brilliantly produced dance music, catchy choruses and some of the biggest names in music. Calvin mixed things up on this record and teamed up with the likes of Gwen Stefani, John Newman, Ellie Goulding, Big Sean, Tinashe and so many more. There are a few tracks on this record that will have you take a step back and say ‘wow’! I loved the fact that he also added some of his famous instrumentals to the mix. If generic pop music is your thing, you won’t find fault in this album.
What I Didn’t Like: Speaking about generic, the album is exactly that. Each track seems to follow an almost identical recipe. I was expecting a groundbreaking album from Calvin but he seemed to have played it safe with this record. Judging on each track individually, this album isn’t bad at all. It’s just a bit overwhelming all together making it a bit bland.
Best Track: Instrumental: Burnin’ (w/ R3hab). Vocal: Blame (Feat. John Newman)
Rating: 3.5/5
