It’s been over a year since South African DJ, Black Coffee, released his critically acclaimed studio album ‘Pieces Of Me’. The DJ spent the year performing globally and has cemented his place as one of the greatest DJs in the world. The DJ, however, has also been working on new music while on the road and has released a five-track EP titled ‘The Journey Continues’ after fans were practically begging for new music. The EP includes the star’s new smash hit ‘Your Eyes’ which features vocals from Shekhinah.
Black Coffee has proven himself to be a fantastic producer so, naturally, this album’s production is sleek, calculated and strong. It’s clear that the DJ poured his essence into every song on the album. He expands the sound we have grown to know him for. The tracks aren’t overshadowed by the production and the star uses subtle beats, African percussions and soulful vocals to release music that stands out of the crowd.
The DJ has also teamed up with some brilliant vocalists who each add a different element to his overall sound. Moneoa does a brilliant job on ‘Pieces of Me’ while Shekhinah adds her spunk to the album’s lead single ‘Your Eyes’. The tracks are, however, a little predictable and I would like to see the DJ step outside of his comfort zone on a track or two on his next release.
If you’re planning on buying a copy of the record, you might want to consider purchasing a physical copy which features a short-film based on his multi-award winning album ‘Pieces Of Me’. The bonus DVD gives viewers an inside look at both the album and the DJ and it’s bound to give you a new appreciation for the star.
The five-track EP is exactly what we needed to whet our appetite while we wait for the DJs next full-length album. It’s an incredible piece of work and, again, proves why Black Coffee deserves all the success he has achieved so far. Well done, Black Coffee!
