Al Bairre
Experience the Al Bairre Show With Al Bairre Experience (Independent)
Breakdown: Local indie pop band, Al Bairre, stole our hearts when they released their smash hit single ‘Bungalow’ late last year and now, the band have officially dropped ‘Experience the Al Bairre Show With Al Bairre Experience’ – an eight-track EP.
How Many Good Tracks: 5 of the 8.
What I Liked: This is one fun album. The entire record is fast-paced and has a high energy which will instantly draw the attention of the listener. The songs are guitar and banjo driven and have a fun, summery sound to them. This is feel-good music at its best and although I struggle to hear the lyrics a lot of the time, when focused, their lyrical content is cheeky and different. These guys are clearly uber-creative and they did a great job with this EP. They’re one of the most interesting acts out of South Africa in the past two years and I see them doing big things for the local industry.
What I Didn’t Like: The band is South African so, naturally, African sounds and elements will appear in their music. However, there are moments when it sounds like they’re mimicking the sound Beatenberg has made popular. Oh, and there’s that small issue of stepping out of the comfort zone that the band needs to work on.
Best Track: Let’s Fall In Love Some More

With regards to “stepping out of the comfort zone”, what did you think of their co-lab with PhFat – Caviar Dreams. This received, and is still receiving, a lot of airplay and was very different to their normal approach
