Afrojack
Forget The World (Universal Music)
Breakdown: He’s had many hits over the past few years and has produced for some of the biggest names in showbiz, but Afrojack has finally released his debut album. The album, titled Forget The World, was preceded by smash hit singles ‘Ten Feet Tall’ and ‘Born To Run’ and sees him stick to his signature EDM style of music.
Tracks We Didn’t Skip: 7 of the 12.
What I Liked: There’s no denying that Afrojack is a genius. The different elements he adds to his tracks and the way they are constructed prove that. He has created an album of catchy, radio friendly tracks that kids around the world love. The Dutch DJ has also sourced some of the best unknown voices in the industry and given them a platform to make magic – something I love about EDM music. That being said, he has also got tracks with rappers such as Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa as well as the legendary Sting.
What I Didn’t Like: I’ve seen Afrojack live and he is absolutely phenomenal on stage but I don’t think the album is a true representation of who he is. It feels as if he has just made some “radio-friendly” tracks just so this record would sell and I wasn’t too impressed with that. Most of the tracks also seem to follow that boring EDM recipe and I feel like there are hardly any moments where he distinguishes himself from the rest of the big DJ’s out there at the moment.
Best Track: Too Wild featuring Wiz Khalifa and Devin Cruise.
Rating: 3/5
