Earlier this year, Big Concerts announced that Lady Antebellum will be heading to South Africa for the very first time this October. Now, they have announced that Afrikaans superstar, Refentse, has been added as the special guest supporting act for both the Cape Town and Johannesburg shows.
Refentse became an overnight online sensation in 2015. In less than a year after it’s release, his debut album, “My haart bly in ‘n taal”, shot to double platinum status – a feat rarely achieved by a first album; making him the top Afrikaans seller in South Africa for 2016 and filling his schedule with as many as 23 performances each month.
Refentse’s story is a magical one. Cecilia Kruger Marchionna, a resident from his home town, recorded cell phone videos of him with guitar in hand – performing his renditions of Laurika Rauch’s “Lisa se Klavier”, Bok van Blerk’s “De la Rey” and Ed Sheraan’s “Thinking out loud”- and uploaded them to social media, where they spread like wildfire. Soon after, he signed a deal with Select Musiek and Sony Music Africa and started working on his debut record.
The star is incredible to watch live and fans who will be attending the show are in for a real treat.
