Local indie pop group, The Plastics, are at it again! The group has just released the video for their brand new single, Sun Scream. The track is off their latest record, In Threes, and is definitely a fan-favourite, so it’s no surprise that the band decided to drop this track as the album’s next offering.
The African sounds throughout the song really bring out the local flavour and makes the song stand out from other pop tracks on radio at the moment. I’ve seen many ways local artists bring in African sounds into their music and this sound is starting to pique the interest of many international listeners – which is why South African music is finally being noticed on a global scale. The band’s lead singer, Pascal Righini, puts his vocals on full display and gives an epic performance of both high and low notes.
The band has also recorded a funky video which sees them jamming in an open space while the stop motion animation of director Simeon van den Berg and his team brings everything to life. “Simeon and his amazing team far exceeded our expectations and we are totally pumped,” Pascal says. “It sums up the whimsical imagery of the album in such a nice way. We will definitely look to work together on another project in the future.” Remember to support local music and buy this song on iTunes today.
