Opposite The Other On The Inspiration Behind ‘Stutter Love’

If you’ve been listening to local radio over the past few months, you wouldn’t be able to escape the brilliance that is ‘Stutter Love’ by South African band Opposite The Other. The song is still dominating the airwaves and since there has been a lot of interest in the track, the band has opened up on what inspired the song.

“We wrote this song because we wanted to question our understanding of love. not only from a romantic perspective, but from a perspective of loving people in general,” the band explained. “If love is something that we all say is so powerful, then surely it can’t be purely based on a feeling people experience.”

The band went on to say that “Feelings are temporary, they come and go. Surely love is a decision we have to make – a choice to love a person or a group of people and put their well-being and needs above our own, no matter what they’ve done in the past or what they may do in the future. The way the world is at the moment is a clear indication that perhaps our view of love is wrongly warped. Maybe love is more about self-sacrifice than self-reward.” Definitely an interesting way to look at it, eh?

“We’re not trying to pretend like we have the answers because we don’t. We’re just making music with the hope that these things will be revealed to us while we all sing & question what we think we know about our lives, together.” The song has definitely resonated with so many people around the country and is a really great track to introduce the band to a larger audience. The band has just released their highly anticipated new single ‘Control-Alt-Delete’, a collaboration with pop star Jimmy Nevis. I have a feeling this is just the beginning of a very long career.
