Oh how times have changed. As more IMAX theatres spring up around the country, South Africa has pretty much lost all of its drive-in cinemas. Luckily, the folks at Montecasino are bringing it back and will be screening some old school movies over the next couple of weeks. How awesome?
Their drive-in, taking place on selected nights in the Outdoor Events Area, will screen some family classics on Friday evenings and Saturday’s will see the perfect ‘date night’ fliek. But let’s be honest, one doesn’t just go to the drive in for the movies. Movie nights at Montecasino come complete with a pop-up cafeteria, offering popcorn, candy floss, toffee apples, hot dogs, and more. Gates to the Outdoor Events Area will open at 5pm, so get there early to get a good spot! At 6pm, the short film starts followed by a chance to stock up on snacks for the main movie, which starts at 7:30pm.
“Adding new, extraordinary experiences to our entertainment offering is something we’re constantly striving for,” says Montecasino GM, Glenn Joseph. “Our Classic Drive-In nights offer a wholesome night of entertainment that simply can’t be experienced anywhere else in Joburg anymore and we hope it will bring back memories of good times for our guests. With limited space available, be sure to get your tickets to your favourite movie before they sell out.”
Tickets are on sale through Computicket for R200 per car. Parking is on a first come, first served basis, and 4×4 vehicles and SUVs will be directed to the back row.
