You may remember the Christian Heath Band from a few years ago. They released hits such as ‘Running Dry’ and ‘Now Or Never’. However, after a short hiatus, the group’s lead singer is back with a bang. He’s preparing for the release of his debut solo album and has recently released his brand new single ‘Magic’. This week, the star opens up about the upcoming record, his passion for music and the future.
You’ve been making waves in the local music scene for months now, but when did you really fall in love with music?
I started singing at the age of seven and went through years of coaching and shows where I performed in front of small crowds. However, the love for music happened at the age of 16 when a friend of mine actually told me I had talent. After that, I started taking note of performances from bigger artists such as Def Leppard, Enrique Iglesias, Bon Jovi and how they would sell out arenas and that was when the love of music really started to take effect.
How would you describe the music you make?
I try and write songs that are real to me. I mainly focus on the vocal performance in my songs then the actual production of the track itself and that could be a weakness however, the producers I work with really understand what I want out of my music. I generally like to keep it as commercial as possible because it’s the type of music that I really enjoy writing.
What do you think it is about your music that makes you unique from anyone else right now?
It’s definitely got to do with my vocal performance. I also believe my songs are catchy with really great hooks.
Your new single ‘Magic’ is quickly climbing up charts around the country. What inspired the song?
I was listening to the new Craig David album at the time. It was a different type of writing style to what I did in my previous works and it inspired me. Originally, the verses were meant to just be in falsetto however the lower octave gave it a very creative blend which I think came out really cool.
You co-wrote the song alongside Howie Combrink. In fact, you also co-wrote your previous single ‘Paradise’ with him. Why do you think the two of you work so well together?
Howard came up with the catchy chorus of ‘Magic’ which I was struggling to lay down. He is a very creative producer who can think quick on his feet. I shared the vision and direction I had for ‘Magic’ and he quickly started on production. I think what makes us a good team is that we know where we want to go with the music we create and have set goals on releasing only the best music.
‘Magic’ is a bit of a different sonic direction for you. What sparked this decision?
I just felt the need to try a different approach because I have been stereotyped as a rock vocalist. I believe I am versatile enough and well equipped to perform any style of music I choose if need be and I think ‘Magic’ shows off my versatility.
You’re releasing your new album soon. Give us a glimpse of what we can expect on the record.
Bigger choruses, catchy hooks and a really big sound! I am very excited for the album to come out.
What do the next few months have in store for you?
I have few exciting ventures that are coming my way which I can’t wait to share with you. My album is on its way and I will also be performing live in various cities across the country which I am very excited about.
