Okay, I need to confess. I’m obsessed with The Voice South Africa. The show has had an incredible amount of talent and has kicked off the first season in style. The judges are fantastic as well. However, while many contestants have an emotional back story (which I usually HATE hearing about because I strongly feel these shows are about the contestants talent but I understand it makes for good TV) Vernon Barnard brought almost everyone to tears in the most inspirational way possible.
Vernon, who wowed judges with his performance of One Direction’s ‘Story Of My Life’ is an inspirational man. Vernon suffered from Glaucoma from a very early age which saw him going under the knife over 15 times as a young child before losing his sight at six. Vernon, however, wanted to inspire people despite his illness and disability and he has definitely done so.
Bobby Van Jaarsveld, the judge who turned around first, instantly burst into tears when he realized that Vernon was blind. Although Karen and Lira also turned (and also turned on the waterworks), Bobby felt a calling towards Vernon and literally got down on his knees begging him to be on his team and to be his friend.
Vernon gave a fantastic audition and I think Bobby will take him to new heights. I can’t wait to see how they grow together throughout the season. If you missed his performance, check it out again below.
