As far back as 2017, before the global spread of Covid-19, Matthew Mole and Francois Van Coke shared images of themselves in the studio together working on music. However, years passed and due to their busy schedules, the project was never finished and fans assumed that the collaboration would never come to life. But, the duo just dropped their highly-anticipated surprise release ‘Fall’ this week – and it’s everything we hoped it would be.
Matthew and Francois completed the track in Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively due to lockdown restrictions while producer Rudolf Willemse added his final touches from his studio in Potchefstroom, which truly makes this a track for COVID-19 times; each artist embracing working remotely to create something special.
“Matthew and I have been talking about a collaboration since 2017, so I’m very glad that we got it together in 2020,” Francois tells us. “It was an interesting process to write the song during this pandemic and having to write it completely away from each other. But it all worked out very cool. I’m super amped to perform Fall with Matt live for the first time at Francois van Coke & Vriende in September.”
The single was released alongside a cover of Bob Dylan’s classic, ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ which serves as a B-side release.
