Babes Wodumo continues to wow audiences around the world. Earlier this year, the gqom queen’s smash hit was used for a scene in Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ film while she collaborated with Zacari on a track titled ‘Redemption’ for the film’s official soundtrack. Since then, she has released even more smash hits and has made international waves yet again as she teams up with Diplo and Major Lazer for a brand new track titled ‘Orkant’.
Diplo has made it a mission to learn the South African music landscape and teamed up with Nasty C and DJ Maphorisa on the smash hit ‘Particula’ which took the world by storm. The star has been a fan of Babes Wodumo for a while and was really excited to get the chance to work with her.
Babes was equally excited and took to social media to share the news with her fans. “This is the day that the lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it,” Babes tweeted alongside a preview of the track. “Orkant single is out, thank you Diplo for making this work much love and respect.” The American DJ shared Babes’ sentiment retweeting her tweet and saying “Huge tune! Giant Talent Babes.. Represent South Africa.”
The Tropika Smoooth Fan celebrity contestant released an official music video for the track which was filmed around Durban and shows off the city’s lifestyle and beauty filled with rickshaw rides, dance culture and the city’s natural beauty.
The collaboration is the recent in a string of international artists teaming up with our local talent. Earlier this month, Black Coffee teamed up with David Guetta and Delilah Montagu for the smash hit ‘Drive’ proving that the world is finally sitting up and taking in the music Mzansi has to offer.
