LISTEN: Zahara Drops Her Walls On New Album ‘Nqaba Yam’

Ever since her breathtaking debut ‘Loliwe’ won over the hearts of millions of fans around the country, songstress Zahara has delivered hit after hit. The star has found an emotional way to tap into the emotions of fans through her powerful music and this week, she proves she still has a lot to say as she premieres her brand-new fifth studio album ‘Nqaba Yam’.

The new 12-track project sees the singer get raw and real paired with introspective lyrics which oozes a newfound confidence from the singer.

Penning down every song on the album, Zahara reunites with producer and long-time collaborator Mojalefa “Mjakes” Thebe on the production of the album and delivers some of her best material to date.

Zahara’s vocals have always been on point and on ‘Nqaba Yam’, the singer delivers some of her best vocal performances to date.

The singer says that the album is inspired by some of her life’s recent events. “You must check how I’ve been trashed on social media and the papers,” she tells Apple Music. “There’s nobody who has not suffered from depression or mental illness. But it depends how you channel it. I channel how I feel onto paper.”

To celebrate the release, Zahara has chosen ‘Izolo’ as the third single from the project – a song that has quickly become a fan-favourite. The song is all about forgiveness and the dangers holding grudges can cause in a relationship.

“I had had an argument with my partner the previous night. But I love him, right. People say that you must list the bad and the good things a person has ever done, and if the bad outweighs the good, then he is bad. If the good outweighs the bad, then he’s trying,” Zahara explains. “He’s not perfect, but he’s trying for you. So the line ‘Okwayizolo, okwayizolo, ndilapha ngoku’ means ‘I was angry yesterday, but today I’m not there anymore. The past is the past.’”
