Local pop sensation Evida has proven to not only be an excellent lyricist, but an exceptional producer as well. Having dropped hits like ‘1,2,3’ with Carla, ‘Ring Of Roses’, ‘You & Me’ and ‘Demons’ with Luna Florentino, the producer and vocalist (real name Liam Jones), has proven to be versatile as he finds who he is as a musician while unpacking the difficulties he’s faced both in life and during his time in the music industry.
On the album, Evida has found an interesting space between the hip-hop and pop genres which allows him to both be as experimental as he dreams to be, while still packaging his material in a way which has become synonymous with his style – something authentically Evida.
It’s clear that the star wants to tell personal stories through his music – and it’s an approach that seemingly works really well. “Mirror For a Miracle is a very personal record to me,” Evida tells us. “It has many different stories all of which I feel beautifully introduce myself to everyone. My family left to a new country, I had relationship issues, I struggled with my sense of self, and I fought for my position in the industry. All these stories are [told] throughout the album. Many of these songs come from a dark place and I believe this album deserves its time in the light now.”
Evida has created a solid project that introduces him and his musicality to Mzansi – flaws and all. The production is slick and the stories shared are raw, honest and well-written.
