I’ll be honest, Lee Cole’s most recent single ‘Blind’ is one of my favourite local releases of the year. The star brings so much emotion and storytelling to his music and is so unique with his music that he’s destined for great things. As he continues his musical journey, Lee Cole drops new music this week as he premieres ‘Headrush’, the anticipated follow-up to ‘Blind’.
‘Headrush’ explores the exhilaration of reliving memories with someone you love, with a higher-energy vibe that represents a departure from Cole’s usual style. “I think in the process of writing this album, I’ve been inspired to step out of my comfort zone and to try styles, genres, and sounds I wouldn’t normally experiment with. ‘Headrush’ is one of those songs where I really extended my creativity in a different direction,” he said.
Despite this exploration, the song retains Cole’s signature sound, a blend of pop with traces of R&B/Soul. Cole describes “Headrush” as a song that feels good and hopes fans will connect with its lightness and energy.
“When we started conceptualising the music video for ‘Head Rush,’ we aimed to encapsulate a time well spent and evoke that rush, that feeling of euphoria and novelty that being with someone you love can give you. We headed to Cape Town, the most beautiful place in the world, and captured various activities that metaphorically represent the excitement and euphoria of love. Along with my director, Kyle, and videographer, Darren, we planned an exciting tour of the city, featuring iconic elements like the vibrant Bo-Kaap neighbourhood and the famous pigeons that fill the air. The entire video was shot over a week, and we had the most fun bringing our vision to life.” adds, Lee Cole
