Local media personality Khanyi Mbau really is a jack of all trades. We know her as a television presenter, actress and businesswoman but, in case you forgot, Khanyi can also sing! In 2020, Khanyi hopes to release more music and she wastes no time as she returns with her new single ‘Ubusuku Bonke’ this week.
‘Ubusuku Bonke’, loosely translated to ‘All Night Long’ is the star’s third single – and proves she has what it takes to make it to the big time. The sexy love song is Mbau’s opportunity to create a romantic African love song like no other. “We’ve never had a beautiful African ballad that speaks about sex and the art of lovemaking,” Khanyi said in a recent interview. “We’ve had Marvin Gaye with ‘Let’s Get It On’, even Cardi B and Bruno Mars tried it. I’m saying let’s make love in isiZulu. Why not?,” she continued.
The star adds that, this time, she took full creative control of her musical direction. “The second time [I released a single] I really had hopes, but management had more of my artistic control. Now I’m at a space where I’m over 30, I’m relaxed, comfortable – dirty 30s as they call it. I’m content with who I am so I’m doing it for the love and respect of the craft,” Khanyi explains.
The track’s music video sees Khanyi showering her boyfriend Tebogo Lerole with affection as she twerks and grinds on him. The video has already been a hit with fans gaining over 72 000 views since Friday’s release.
