Taylor Swift threw some pretty heavy shade when she released ‘Bad Blood’ – a diss track about Katy Perry. She even took it a step further and released it as a single while recording a pretty epic video for the track with her girl-squad. The two pop stars have still not squashed the feud. In fact, Katy just released her response to ‘Bad Blood’ in the form of ‘Swish Swish’, new her duet with Nicki Minaj. However, in a new episode of Carpool Karaoke with James Corden, Katy Perry finally opens up about the horrible feud – and sets the record straight.
Katy admits that Taylor is the one who “started it and it’s time for her to finish it.” Yikes! Katy goes on to explain what exactly happened. As you may remember, Taylor revealed that a certain pop star stole a few of the back-up dancers who were performing on her world tour and convinced them to join her tour instead.
‘It’s so crazy!” Perry said. “‘Okay, so there are three backing dancers that went on tour with her tour, right? And they asked me before they went on tour if they could go, and I was like, ‘Yeah, of course. I’m not on a record cycle and get the work, and she’s great and all that. But I will be on a record cycle probably in about a year. So be sure to put a 30-day contingency in your contract so you can get out if you want to join me when I say I’m going back on.’ That year came up, right? And I texted all of them because I’m very close with them and I said, ‘Look, just FYI, I’m about to start. I want to put the word out there. They said, ‘Okay, we’re going to go and talk to management about it.’ And they did, and they got fired.”
Katy adds that she tried to speak to Taylor about the debacle but didn’t receive a response. “I do the right thing any time that it feels like a fumble,” Perry admitted. “It was a full shutdown and then she writes a song about me. I’m like, ‘Okay, cool. Cool. That’s how you want to deal with it? Karma.'”
The feud has been haunting Katy for years and she’s ready to squash it but adds that every action has it’s consequence. “But what I want to say is that I’m ready for that B.S. to be done. Now, there is the law of cause and effect. You do something, there’s going to be a reaction, and trust me, Daddy, there’s going to be a reaction,” she explained – and, in her case, it’s ‘Swish Swish’.
Katy has been doing a whole lot of promo for her new album ‘Witness’ which drops everywhere on the 9th of June. It includes the hits ‘Chained To The Rhythm’ and ‘Bon Appétit’. Watch the full Carpool Karaoke episode here:
