South African musician Ntokozo “K.O” Mdluli is a template for the phrase, “in his pocket”, as he’s currently annihilating the radio charts of late. According to Radio Monitor, K.O is currently sitting with 5 radio singles – of his own and some features – in the Top 50 of All Radio charts.
The Skhanda World founder started the year with a bang releasing his visuals for “Flight School” with Sjava before his imprint released its first collaboration, “Killa Combo”. Currently in the Top 50 most played songs on South African radio, “Flight School” ranks highest followed by a song of hope called “Rainbow” which was chartered by Capitec Bank where K.O lead on production as well. His highly anticipated release with Ma-E, “Navigator”, follows as fans quickly took to the bouncy tune which undeniably lifted spirits during this time. Another collaboration on the charts sees K.O featured on Zingah’s “Lead the Way”. Can someone call the fire brigade on this man?
An interesting thing to note is that Skhanda World as an imprint takes up 1.96% of space in the Top 100 share of impacts on the radio chart. What this means is that independent record labels and companies are capable of grabbing a seat at the table even though major labels still hold 42.36% of radio’s impact share. What can be said is that this is only the beginning of what Skhanda World is set to offer South African music so music supporters are in for a treat in 2020 and beyond. Make sure to support the movement and stay tuned because “you gon’ get this work” alright!
