Afrikaans pop star, Joe Foster, made a shocking exit from his band ADAM last year after he expressed interest in heading the solo route. While our hearts shattered at the decision, we’re so happy he did after listening to the debut single off his brand new self-titled album ‘Mona Lisa’.
The song is stripped down and beautifully shows off Joe’s strong, clear vocals. Joe, who also wrote the song, sings about a girl, Lisa, who has captured his heart while comparing her to Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous painting. The production, while simple, is powerful and Joe has managed to release a brilliant pop song without the bells and whistles making him quite vulnerable as it shows off raw emotion.
The song is one of the best local songs to have come out of 2015 and the wait for Joe’s debut album was certainly worth it. Joe manages to tell a story with the song and it’s written in a beautiful manner. Joe has pleasantly surprised us with this song and we can’t stop hitting that repeat button. Remember to support local music and buy Joe’s album at your nearest music store.
