After 15 seasons American Idol came to an end last week. The curtains are closed, the mic switched off and the set has been taken down. It was officially the last time we will see Ryan Seacrest, Harry Connick Jnr, Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez together on that stage but as one door closes, another opens and no one knows this more than Jennifer. So, in true J.Lo style, she dropped her new single Ain’t Your Mama’ during the show’s grand finale.
The song, which was written by one of the biggest new names in pop at the moment Mehgan Trainor, is a catchy, tongue-in-cheek track about relationships similar to that of Jennifer’s with beau Casper Smart. The song speaks about older women in relationships who often feel like they’re cleaning up after their younger man. “I ain’t gonna be cooking all day, I ain’t your mama … When did you get too comfortable, cause I’m too good for that,” she sings.
The song has J.Lo written all over it. It’s got a catchy hook, Latin-inspired beats and sees the star playing it safe. While the song definitely grows on you, we can’t help wish that Jennifer took some more risks when it comes to her music. That being said, it’s still clear that this is going to be a hit for the singer so expect to hear it on your radio soon. The last week has been a big one for Jennifer. Not only did American Idol come to an end but her TV show Shades Of Blue also worked up fans with it’s shocking finale. But, this doesn’t mean Jennifer slows down as the second leg of her Vegas residency starts next month. We hope she’ll be adding Ain’t Your Mama to the setlist!
