Afrikaans pop star Janie Bay has continued to deliver smash hit after smash hit. Over the past few months, the star has released singles ‘My Lief’ with Majozi and Early B as well as her duet with Danie Reënwolf titled ‘Ek Glo Nog In Jou’ and now, she drops her second Afrikaans studio album ‘Prisma’.
Janie explains that ‘Prisma’ is the culmination of songs written between 2019 and early 2021. With personal themes of family, love, passion, loss and encouragement, the album has been crafted as a masterful offering of diverse moods and musical textures that play widely between emotive ballads, light-hearted pop and a good dose of electronic adrenaline.
The seven tracks, although seemingly different, come together in an intricate prismatic matrix that hits home with thoughtful intention in a time where nothing is certain. Bay generously moves between these mercurial emotions and fans will love the new sound.
To celebrate the release of the album, Janie also released a beautiful rendition of Fokofpolisiekar`s classic tune ‘Tevrede’.
The album has been a years in the making and Janie is thrilled to have this collection of songs out there. “I felt closer to people during the make of this album,” she says. “The songs are personal, but also an expression of what we are going through as a collective and I hope that everyone that listens will enjoy it.”
